Budget season means sleepless nights, heartburn, STRESS. That’s in a “normal” year. This year feels like a visit to the Twilight Zone. With the last minute announcements of reductions in AP, EIS positions, curtailing schools’ ability to purchase off-norm Assistant Principal positions, as well as limiting access to 30% of carryover funds during budgeting, site administrators are staring into a void of mounting responsibilities with no relief in sight. AALA President Nery Paiz’ phone rings off the wall and his mailbox overflows with members asking for respite and sanity. It is important to share these voices so that everyone understands why site leaders just might look for a quick exit come June.
